Why should you make your own beauty products? Here are just a few reasons: to save money, protect your health, reduce your use of earth's valuable resources, avoid petroleum and other non-renewable resources. Since I know you have all switched to Non-Toxic Cleaning now and you can reap the same benefits by switching to natural homemade beauty products.
Non-Toxic Beauty Recipes
Let's go in order form top to bottom. :)
Hair
Shampoo
1 oz. Olive oil
1 egg
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar.
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until well combined. Use like regular shampoo. Discard any leftovers.
Conditioner
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp olive oil
3/4 cup lukewarm water
Beat the egg yolk until it's thick and white. Add the oil and mix well. Then add the water into the egg mixture and mix well. Massage into clean, damp hair. Rinse with plenty of warm water after about 10 minutes.
Hair Spray
1 lemon
2 cups of water
Cut the lemon over a glass bowl to catch the juice. Add the lemon pieces and the water to the bowl and set the bowl in a pot of simmering water. Simmer until the lemon water mixture has been reduced by half. Pour it through a piece of cheesecloth to strain out the lemon pieces. Let the liquid cool, and then transfer it to a clean spray bottle. The hair spray will keep for up to a week in the fridge.
Face
Kiwi Cleansing Cream
1 kiwi, peeled
2 tbsp plain yogurt
1 tbsp almond oil
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp almonds, finely ground
Put the kiwi in a food processor and puree. Add yogurt, almond oil, almonds and honey. It will form a thick and creamy paste. Use like any facial cleanser. Rinse with plenty of warm water.
Skin
Sugar Scrub
2 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup sweet almond oil
4 teaspoons lemon juice
4 tablespoons honey
4 drops lemon essential oil
Combine the sugar and sweet almond oil in a large bowl and stir well to combine. Add the lemon juice and stir again. Finally, add the honey and lemon essential oil and stir again to mix.
Deodorant
4 ounces cornstarch
2 ounces baking soda
1 ounces liquid chlorophyll
2 ounces vodka
2 ounces distilled water
8 ounces beeswax
10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil
Melt wax over very low heat in a double boiler. Mix cornstarch, baking soda, vodka, and distilled water well. Add to the melted beeswax and stir until well combined. Add chlorophyll and essential oils. Pour into mold and let it harden. Store in an airtight container. This recipe is a little intense for me so I think I am goign to stick to using the trial size deodorants in the summer. (I hardly sweat and by that I mean only on days I am working out in 80+ degree weather. I know you are jealous. )
Hands
Hand Cream
2 cups warm water
1 1/2 cup glycerin
1/2 ounce spirits of ammonia
1/2 ounce cocoa butter
1/2 teaspoon boric acid
1 cup stearic acid
Combine the cocoa butter, glycerin and stearic acid in a glass bowl. Melt over low heat in a pot of hot water. Remove the bowl and add ammonia. Stir until milky. Add boric acid to warm water. Add to first mixture. Mix with beater for 10 minutes at high speed. Perfume and color as desired. Age for 2 weeks before using.
Feet
Foot Scrub
1/2 cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of lotion
Mix the sugar and lotion in a bowl.
Massage the sugar and lotion mixture in your feet to exfoliate.
Rinse with clear water and pat dry. Apply some additional lotion to your soft feet.
I know you are all just dying to try out some of these on your own. I'm off to investigate that sugar scrub myself.

Another great one for hair is baking soda scrub and apple cider vinegar rinse. Using a lot of friction, put the baking soda directly on the scalp; rinse out with 1 part apple cider vinegar to 8 parts water.
tata That sounds delicious!
